Through partnership with the Drayton Valley Primary Care Network, our clinic has hired health professionals known as Panel Managers to help us with preventative care for our patients.
What is Preventative Care?
Preventative care is performing screening maneuvers and treatments before problems arise, in order to maintain an individuals health.
Such maneuvers may include:
- Breast Cancer screening (mammograms)
- Colon Cancer screening (Stool tests a.k.a FIT tests, colonoscopy)
- Cervical Cancer screening (pap tests)
- Blood pressure measurement
- Diabetes screening
- Height and weight checks
What does a Panel Manager do?
Panel managers are allied health professionals that help keep a physicians group of patients up to date with the types of screening they require. They look at a persons age and other demographics, whether they are eligible for screening and if they are current with recommended testing. If they see that you are due to have had a certain type of screening done they may notify you to book an appointment.
How does this benefit me?
Certain adverse health conditions (such as colon or breast cancer) can be caught at early stages. If these cancers are detected at these early stages, they can be potentially treated with curative results, saving lives, preventing other significant negative outcomes and reducing health dollars spent.
